Chugach Alaska Corporation Board Member, James Kvasnikoff, Passes Away

James Kvasnikoff(Anchorage, Alaska) – We at Chugach Alaska Corporation (Chugach) are deeply saddened by the death of Board Member James Kvasnikoff, who passed away April 10. Our thoughts are with his family and friends during this difficult time.

Kvasnikoff has been a valued member of Chugach’s Board of Directors since 2007, serving in various capacities with Chugach subsidiary companies, and as a member of the Lands & Cultural Resources Committee. We are grateful for his wisdom and business counsel that have contributed to Chugach’s success.

Sheri Buretta, Chair of Chugach’s Board of Directors added, “It is a tremendous loss for the region as he was such a humble and dedicated leader. But his spirit and hope for a brighter future for our people lives on in us. I am thankful that I was able to know him professionally and personally.” 

An original Chugach and English Bay shareholder, Kvasnikoff was born and raised in Nanwalek, Alaska. His parents are the late Vincent Kvasnikoff, one of the original Incorporators of Chugach Alaska Corporation; and Natalie Kvasnikoff. In addition to his work with Chugach, James also served as 2nd Chief of the Nanwalek IRA Council; Regional Vice-Chair at Chugachmiut; and Director on the Kenai Peninsula Project Grad.

A funeral service will be held towards the middle of next week in Nanwalek.
